Place

I just had a brief flashback of the old library downtown.
Remember the one? The main VPL Branch on the Northeast corner of Robson and Burrard? I just have this one very faint memory of the place... the check-out. I remember the big metal slide type things that the librarians would slide the books down after you'd sign them out, like in a grocery store. Is that just my made-up memory, a dream, or were those real? I just remember thinking, "can I slide down those slides too? why can't I slide down those slides?!"
I tried to find some old archived photos of the heritage building before Virgin Megastore/Planet Hollywood (now HMV and BangOn) plunked down. No dice. If anyone finds anything, please send them over! Not urgent, but feeling rather sentimental tonight.
It's funny how these random memories pop up, and what's even cooler is how far back they go!
Like fudgicles, red licorish rope, smarties, or apple juice in a plastic cup with a peel-off lid from the old Stanley Park restaurant. Or like the nautical theme of the old Eaton's restaurant, or the waterfall store at Lionmarket...

Here's a flickr site I came across tonight that gave me some interesting facts on the old building...

Those were the days! Eww Oak panels and orange. Don't miss that.

Thing

This is me on the computer again looking for a job. The one I had was very repetitive (marketing a free service of finanical advice and market reports to shareholders in the UK) and could have been very boring if it hadn't been for the people I worked with. The company had to shut down, and so our last day was on Wednesday. But I'll never forget these cool people. Natasha, a total sweetheart and someone I could talk to for hours and hours...

This is Bronwyn. Hilarious, Aussie and introduced me to the coolest, grimiest, cheapest, most real bar: Xampanaria. Hope we can go out more before I leave back for Vancouver!

Here is Bronwyn and Claire. Claire is lovely, great to chat with too and has the best telephone voice out of all of us girls and pretty much exceeded each of our daily lead count by 5, almost always!

And this is our group (minus the lovely Renée). That's Cobi our boss. He was cool enough to buy us all snacks and rum for mojitos and piña coladas (severance)! So that's why you see all that junk food and alcohol on the work table! Normally it's tea and biscuits, and all business. That last day at work was hilarious. No work, all chatting, drinking and having a great time. even though we didn't party like this everday at work, we still had a great time. Lots of funny calls, weird people, meaningful conversation and laughs. Lots and lots of laughs. :) miss you girls!

Person

Lazy ol' me.
On most weekday mornings I tend to sleep in quite a bit longer than normally. For, the rest of my day consists of me at work, trying to stay chipper while dialing nearly 200 UK numbers a day and having to hear "NO!" or "No, no, no, NO!, no... stop calling me!!" about 80 times. So, usually I tend to have a long breakfast in front of the computuer, answering your emails and seeing what everyone is up to on facebook. Then I read, draw or go for a walk before making lunch and getting ready for work. A pleasant start to my day is vital, so when waking up to a full-blown reno going on upstairs and then followed by a cockroach sighting in my kitchen, which I had cleaned very carefully the night before, i. am. not. happy. Cockroaches are full-on nasty and will not go away and of course, I'm a chicken and can't kill them myself (I'm afraid if I do, I'll puke), so I trap them under cups or tupperwear containers for my flatmates to find and then kill. They find this (luckily) hilarious and get a kick out of smashing them. My flatmate Marcelo says we should start a super hero team that will save the fragile, entomophobic dwellers of Barcelona, by carrying on the trapping (that's me) and killing (that's him) of all the cucarachas!
Anyway the point of my story here is, I took a break from this usual morning routine last week to finally FINALLY buy some stamps to put on your postcards which were meant to be sent to you almost 3 months ago in Turkey. So until those postcards actually arrive, here are couple more photos to keep you jealous of my wonderful Turkey trip.

Thing

The differnce between the verbs Ser and Estar.

Ser= to be
Estar= to be

When using the verb Ser, you are defining a person, describing the physical appearance, nationality, profession, character of something or someone. eg. Soy canadiense. (I'm Canadian.)

Where as, when you use Estar, you are describing the location, emotional state, or temporary physical state of something or someone. eg. Estoy triste. (I'm sad.) You even describe being dead with Estar (as if you're only dead temporarily...).

Anyways! In helping to remember the difference between these two verbs to describe what a thing is, I like to just try and remember something is just temporary when using Estar. To be sad, to be confused, or to be frustrated is only temporary. And that one's character, deep down, never really changes despite a broken heart or failed exam (at least in the Spanish grammer world). So for anyone who is a bit miserable or stressed out because of school or work or whatever, ¡Esta temporal! ;)

Y a veces, las cosas buenas estan temporales tambien, entonces, ¡Disfruta!
(And sometimes the good things are temporary too, so enjoy!)

Being single in Barcelona is great. I get to just focus on ME. Although, sometimes I just want to do this...

About Me

My photo
Barcelona, Catalunya, Spain
No, I didn't come to Barcelona because of THAT movie. (although it did fuel my obsession with this city, slightly). First time living away from home, away from Canada... Thinking it's gonna be an adventure. I want to share my ups and downs with you during my European get away, so enjoy. :)
